Finland has little over 5 million inhabitants, and is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. More than half of the Finns live in the countryside, and only about half a million people inhabit the capital city, Helsinki. The share of refugees and immigrants in Finland is very low compared to other European countries; foreign citizens make up only 2.3% of the population. Most of them are from Russia, Estonia and Sweden. Finnish and Swedish are both official languages in Finland. |
