Football (soccer) is the national sport in Ghana. The Ghanaian National Soccer team, the Black Stars, has for decades been one of the top teams in Africa. The Black Stars have won the Africa Nations Cup four times (1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982). The team made its debut at the FIFA world cup in Germany in 2006, reaching the second round after performances against Italy (lost 2-0), before beating the United States (2-1) and Czech Republic (2-0). Other popular sports include field hockey, volleyball, track and field, tennis, and boxing. The people enjoy stage theater, cinema, and cultural presentations. Drumming and dancing are also common forms of entertainment. |
