Ghana's population was estimated at 22,931,299 in 2007. The population is composed of many ethnolinguistic groups, the principal of which are the Akan (Ashanti and Fanti), Mole-Dagbani, Ewe, and Ga-Adangme. English is the official language, African languages include Ewe, Ga, Twi, Fanti, Dagbani, Nzima and Hausa. Ghana was inhabited in precolonial times by a number of ancient kingdoms, including an inland Ashanti kingdom and various Fante states along the coast. |
