The sectors that employ most people in Italy are agriculture (5%) ,industry (32%) and services (63%). Unemployment is a regional issue in Italy; it is low in the north, and high in the south. The overall national rate is about 7%. A significant underground economy absorbs high numbers of people in the south, but they work for low wages and without standard social benefits and protections. Women and youth have significantly higher rates of unemployment than men. |
