About 12 percent of the roads in Myanmar are paved with most of them being made of gravel (about 2/3). The remaining roads are not easily accessible by cars, but by jeeps or ox carts. There are about 3,991 km (2,480 mi) of railway track, but they don't connect with railways outside of Myanmar, only with major cities within the country. Trains, cars and buses in Myanmar are mostly very old and and can be uncomfortable. There is an airline in Myanmar (Myanmar Airways) that is owned by the government and has national and international service, but the most common form of transportation for passengers or for carrying cargo is sailing on the about 12,875 km of rivers and canals. Bicycles and motorbikes are other very common means of transportation.
