In the towns and cities of Guyana the main means of transportation are bicycles, mopeds, cars, taxis and minibuses (in Berbice the Tapir is used). For getting around the country, minibuses are mainly used. Boats and pontoon ferries are commonly used to cross and to sail on rivers. It is possible to get around by plane as there are several landing strips throughout the country. It has since 1974 not been possible to travel by railway in Guyana.
