More than four-fifths of Indians practice Hinduism, which is native to the Indian subcontinent. Islam, practised by around one-sixth of the population, is the most important minority religion. Christianity and Sikhism are each practised by around 2% of Indians. Less than 1% practise Buddhism or Jainism. Zoroastrianism and Judaism have a long history in India; they each have several thousand adherents.
