The majority of Lebanese, about 55%, are Muslim, but Christians make up a large minority of about 40%. Shia Muslims is the majority group, with Maronite Christians and Sunni Muslims as the two other important groups. Together, these 3 represent the leadership of the country, both economically as well as politically. A fourth group, the Druze, also plays an important part in the life of Lebanon, but represents only about 7% of the population
