The Mexican staple food, tortillas, can be made of flour (more common in the north) or maize (the traditional method and still the most common in the south). Tortillas are either served as a side dish or rolled and baked for enchiladas, fried for tacos or grilled for quesadillas. Another typical ingredient in the Mexican diet is beans, most commonly boiled and then fried. They can be a main ingredient in a meal or served as a garnish. Guacamole is avocado mashed with onions, chilies and coriander, and is served as a dip or as a garnish. For drinking, Mexicans have two preferences: tequila and beer. It is much more common in Mexico to enjoy a beer with your dinner than a glass of red wine.
