The Andean mountains cover about 26% of Peru, and the rain forest covers about 63% of the country. The coastal plain that makes up the rest of the counry consists of a long land strip, which extends along the whole coast from north to south. The Huascarán (6,768 m) is Peru's highest mountain. In the country's south-east there is a highland plateau containing the basin of Lago Titicaca, which is drained into Lago Poopó in Bolivia by the River Desaguadero. |
