France is a secular Republic meaning the State and the Church are completely separate. However, several religions are represented in France. The biggest religion is Catholicism, the traditional religion of France. The second biggest religion is Islam, followed by Protestantism, Judaism and Buddhism. A large number of people have no religion at all, and declare themselves atheist.
