Most Germans in bigger cities live in various forms of urban housing such as apartments and semi-detached houses. Due to the destruction caused during the world war, most of today's housing was built after 1950. Single-story and two-story townhouses characterize the tidy neighborhoods of small towns and medium-sized cities. Usually only the nuclear family resides a German home, and the homes are mostly of good, modern standard.
