The Guyanese workforce is predominantly employed in agriculture, mining and manufacturing, but also in construction, services, and administration. There is a lack of skilled labor as workers with a professional background migrate in large numbers every year to the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. Unemployment and underemployment is a major problem in Guyana.
