Sea wall: The city of Georgetown lies below sea level and is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by the sea wall which was originally built by the Dutch in two phases. The first phase was completed in 1860 and the second phase was undertaken from 1872 to 1882. At the western end of the sea wall is a bandstand which was built in 1903. Kyk Over Al: Kyk Over Al was a Dutch fort in the colony of Essequibo, in what is now Guyana. It was constructed in 1616 on an islet in the mouth of the Mazaruni River. It once served as the centre for the Dutch administration of the county, but now only ruins are left. The name Kyk Over Al derives from the Dutch for "See over all", a reference to the commanding view of the river from the fort. 1763 Monument: The 1763 Monument in the heart of Georgetown is a tribute to the African slave Cuffy and the history of the Afro-Guyanese people. Cuffy lead the 1763 Slave Revolt on 23 February, 1763 from his base at Plantation Lilienburg, along with his deputy Akara. Cuffy's army of African slaves overthrew the Berbice governor van Hoogenheim and Cuffy ruled as the Governor of Berbice. Petroglyphs: Near kurupukari can be seen stones with about 6000 years old petroglyphs. These are old Amerindian records of hunting, water etc.
