Tro-tros (minibuses) and mammy wagons (converted pick-up trucks) are very commonly used means of transportation in Ghana. Fast car (Kumasi And Takoradi) is a seven-seater Peugeot hatchback that goes fast to the destination for about twice the price of long distance tro-tros. Taxis can usually be obtained at 'Taxi ranks' and along major routes. There are different types of taxis, like the straight taxi that ply a route, just like the larger tro-tro vans, and they take many passengers at once, the dropping taxi in which you can ask a taxi driver to take you to a particular destination or chartered taxis which can be hired at most hotels. State Transport Corporation (STC) and Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) buses and others are available for long journeys (for example Accra to Kumasi). They have stations in most major cities and are usually express buses. The rail network is limited to a 1000km- (600 mile-) loop by the coast connecting the cities of Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi and several intervening towns. There is also a rail link between the two main ports of Tema and Takoradi. Trains run at least twice a day on all three legs of this single-track triangle. Another option is to fly.
