Qat is a mildly stimilating drug that is widely grown, and used by almost everyone in Yemen. People often use qat alone and during the whole day, but many meet for qat sessions to chew, talk and drink tea or water. Sessions like these can take several hours, and are preferably held at someones mafraj, the highest, and nicest, room in a house with a view to all sides. Qat is extremely popular among people, but there is some concern about the economic consequences of the huge amount of hours spent on qat instead of work, as there is about the physical side effects of using the drug. |
