Almost 85% of the houses in Ethiopia are made of mud and stick or thatch walls. Most houses in rural areas have dirt floors, while more houses in urban areas have cement or brick floors. Most houses have very few rooms, some just one or two. Houses in rural areas have only one floor, but in cities and bigger towns taller houses are built. In some areas of Ethiopia people have a habit of painting their houses in bright colors, and some even decorate them with bright paintings.
