Many destinations in Germany can be reached by train, tram or bus. Trains, underground railways ("U-Bahn"), suburban railways ("S-Bahn"), trams and buses provide transport locally and regionally. German public transportation is known to be reliable and punctual, but many Germans do own their own car. Cycling is also popular, and for those not owning their own bicycle, most cities have a rental service. One is operated by Deutsche Bahn, and allows you to, by calling a number, set up a credit card account which enables you to release the electronically locked bike by inputting a pin code. When finished, the cyclist returns the bike to a bike rack, situated near major intersections. The appropriate fee is then deducted from the credit card. Once an account and pin code are set up, any available bike can be used at any time.
