Most houses and apartments in Israel are of a good or decent standard with electricity and modern facilities. The majority of Israel's population (91%) live in urban areas, including a dozen cities with over 100,000 inhabitants. About 20,000 Israeli settlers live in the illegally occupied Golan Heights, 187,000 settlers live in the West Bank, and about 177,000 in East Jerusalem. Rural inhabitants live in villages (3.7%), kibbutzim (2.2%), and moshavim (3.1%). Israel is famous for it's kibbutzim (singular: kibbutz) which is a type of agricultural collective. Typical for kibbutzim is the collective ownership of property, communal living, and the rearing of children by the community as a whole rather than by their parents alone.
