In almost all older towns and cities of the Netherlands you can see houses built in traditional Dutch building style, but also modern and very untraditional houses can be seen in the larger cities. The Dutch seem to have a very open mind when it comes to modern architecture, and many buildings are highly unusual. The traditional houses are narrow, usually with two or three floors. Many of these houses have big, often uncurtained, windows on the lowest floor, and at night time it is a nice experience to see the families living their lives in their well decorated, illuminated homes. Private homes are usually inhabited by only one family.
