The architect Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926) studied at the Escola Superior d'Arquitectura in Barcelona. Over the course of his career, he developed a sensuous, curving, almost surreal design style. Although categorized with the Art Nouveau, Gaudi created an entirely original style. His most famous work is La Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona. The church has been under construction since 1882 and it's not expected to be completed for decades to come. Gaudi played an active role in directing the construction of the church until his death in 1926. He would often request that work be modified and adjusted until it was exactly what he had in mind. Today his work is partly open to interpretation, and it is easy to see the variations in style in the design so far.
