The landscape of Pakistan ranges from lofty mountains in the north, the Karakoram and the Himalayas, through dissected plateaus to the plains of the Punjab. There is the desolate barrenness of Balochistan and the hot dry deserts of Sindh blending into miles of beaches of Mekran coast. In Pakistan there are 5 mountains over 8000 meters, 29 over 7500 meters and 108 over 7000 meters. Peaks between 4000 meters and 7000 meters are abundant. The famous K2 mountain with its peak at 8611 meters lies in Pakistan.
