Architecture in Qatar is a mix of traditional and modern and prestigious buildings. Since the country has benefited from oil and gas revenues, many modern hotels, offices and public buildings have been constructed in Doha. A government sponsored housing programme provides homes for Qataris on favourable terms, but on normal terms housing can be expensive. Foreign residents can not own property in Qatar, and must therefore rent for often very high prices.
