With 31 ethnic groups having more than a million members, the USA has a highly diverse population. The majority of the population is of European origin, with the largest groups having primary ancestry traceable to the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland. Major racial and national minority groups include blacks (either of US, African, or Caribbean parentage), Chinese, Filipinos, Japanese, and Spanish-speaking peoples of the Americas. Although the USA has no official language at the federal level, English is the de facto national language.
