America is a highly religious country, and nearly every religion in the world has adherents or organized institutions in the United States. American religious institutions are very influential in social and political life. About 98% of all Americans believe in God, and approximately 60% of those believe that the Genesis creation account, Noah's ark and a global flood, and Moses' parting of the Red Sea are literally true. About 60% of Americans are members of a church, synagogue or other religious group, and about 40% of Americans attend religious services regularly. Most Americans are Protestants; other important groups are Roman Catholics , Mormons, Buddhists, Jews, and Muslims.
