The legendary Swiss patriot, William Tell, was according to legend defying an Austrian bailiff, and was as punishment ordered to shoot an apple off his small son's head. Although he succeeded hitting the apple instead of the head, he was held prisoner by Austrian authority when he revealed that had he failed, he had planned to kill the bailiff with an arrow he had hidden on his person. Tell escaped and eventually shot the bailiff from ambush at Küssnacht, and by that setting off a revolt
