Traditional Chinese culture regards physical fitness as an important aspect, and, since the 20th century, a large number of sports activities, both Western and traditionally Chinese, are popular in China. The People's Republic of China is one of the best-performing countries in the Summer Olympics and excels in many areas, such as table tennis, badminton, diving and gymnastics. Football is the most popular sport in China today. In the Tibet area pool is a highly popular pastime activity, and pool tables are seen in the streets in many a town or village. Kite flying and the game mahjong are traditional Chinese games that have become internationally popular.
