Among the Chinese community, Buddhism and Taoism are the most popular while ancestor worship and other Chinese sects also have their adherents. Buddhists and Taoists constitute about 54% of the population. Islam is the official religion of the Malays, but there are also converts among the Indian, Chinese and other communities, and Muslims make up about 15% of the population. Christians represent about 12.5% of the population (with Protestants outnumbering Roman Catholics), and of these 88% are Chinese. Some 4% of Singaporeans are Hindus, almost all Indian.
