Most Thai dishes consist of rice or noodles served with vegetables and/or some kind of meat. Common seasoning in Thai food include galingale, black pepper, ground peanut, tamarind juice, ginger and coconut milk. Thai food varies from region to region, for example, glutinous or sticky rice is more popular in the North and Northeast than steamed rice. Moreover, in some areas, certain insects are also eaten e.g. crickets, silk worm larvae and red ant larvae. Ready made food and fruit can be bought everywhere at all times as Thai people usually don't regard meals as important family events as can be the case in many western countries, but basically eat whenever they're hungry.
