Traveling on Palestinian roads can be a slow and tedious affair because of the Israeli roadblocks. Roadblocks are concrete blocks or huge dirt piles installed by the Israeli military to inhibit vehicular movement on Palestinian roads. They are not manned by soldiers and do not prevent people from crossing them on foot; their sole purpose is to prevent Palestinians from using their cars and trucks. Instead of taking their cars on the main road to work, Palestinians have to take indirect unpaved roads or taxis that shuttle back and forth between roadblocks. Palestinian roads are often dirt roads, but some are asphalted. |
