Although being quite ethnically homogenous, the Spanish people display great regional diversity, and separatist tendencies remain particularly strong among the Catalans and the Basques. Castilian is the official Spanish language, but Catalan, Galician, and Basque are still spoken and written extensively in their respective districts. There are about 4,145,000 foreign residents in Spain. Of these well over half a million are Moroccan, and Ecuadorians make up half a million as well. Romanian and Colombian populations amount to around 300,000 each. There are also a significant number of British (761,000)and German (133,588) citizens, mainly in Alicante, Málaga provinces, Balearic islands and Canary islands. Chinese make up a small minority, as well as immigrants from several sub-Saharan African countries.
