A typical home in rural Trinidad & Tobago consists of one to three rooms plus an outside kitchen. Slums and tenements are typical in urban areas since there is a shortage of adequate housing. More than 75% of all homes are detached houses, about 20% are flats, and a few people live in duplexes.
