The vast majority of Egypt's inhabitants live in the Nile valley and delta, and the rest of the country (about 96% of Egypt's total land area) is sparsely populated. In the largest cities, Cairo and Alexandria, there are modern apartment buildings and houses, as well as small, poor houses and shantytowns. On the River Nile in Cairo some people live on houseboats. |
