The Indian school system is divided into preprimary, primary, middle, secondary (or high school), and higher levels. Preprimary is usually composed of Lower Kindergarten and Higher Kindergarten, where primary reading and writing skills are developed. Primary school includes children of ages six to eleven, organized into grades one through five. Secondary school pupils aged eleven through fifteen are organized into grades six through ten, and higher secondary school students ages sixteen through seventeen are enrolled in grades eleven through twelve. In some places there is a concept called Middle schools for grades between six to eight. In such cases grades nine to twelve are classified under high school category. Higher Education in India provides an opportunity to specialize in a field and includes technical schools, colleges, and universities.
