There are more unpaved roads than paved roads in Peru. The Pan-American Highway runs north to south through the coastal desert and is mostly in good condition. There is a road branching of the Pan-American Highway at Pativilca and runs to Huaraz and on to Caraz. The main roads in and to the Sacred Valley fro Cusco are also paved. The Cusco-Puno highway is fully paved and continues along the south shore of Lake Titicaca to Desasguadero on the Bolivian border.
